Take These Keto Snacks on the Go with You

Want to jumpstart your weight loss with a diet that’s had proven success? Then you might want to try out the keto diet. Sometimes making lifestyle changes such as starting a better eating routine and exercising more just isn’t enough. While those changes are important to your health, they don’t always yield the weight loss results you want to see. This is frustrating, but don’t lose hope yet, you do have other options.

If you’re interested in beginning the keto diet, you’re going to need to make a commitment to eating a certain way if you want to drop those pounds. But it doesn’t have to be hard or intimidating, because there are lots of different foods you can consume on this diet, including snacks! Which brings us to today’s article where we’re going to discuss:

  • How to start the keto diet
  • Why keto-friendly snacks are important
  • Our favorite keto snacks you can take on the go

Ways to try the keto diet

There’s more than one way to adhere to the keto diet!

The keto diet has been helping folks lose weight for years, so you may be wondering if it could work for you. The keto diet aims to limit the carbs that your body receives, so it can start to burn fats and reach a state of ketosis. This is a high fat/low carb diet that limits the types of foods you can consume throughout the day. However, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing! When you know the types of foods you can eat, it makes it easier to stay on track, especially since there are all kinds of foods that are keto-friendly.

The large part of your diet will consist of items that are high in fat and protein, such as:

  • Meat (beef, poultry, fish)
  • Eggs
  • Nuts and seeds
  • Avocados
  • Cheese
  • Butter and oil
  • Dairy products (milk, yogurt, cottage cheese)
  • Broccoli
  • Cauliflower
  • Spinach
  • Keto-friendly shakes
  • And more!

You’re going to work to cut out most carbs and sugars from your diet, such as bread, pasta, oats, and sweets. The standard keto diet aims to have a 70/20/10 ratio between fats/protein/carbs, but this isn’t the only way you can try out this diet. This ratio is tough for a lot of people to stick to, which is why there are a few different versions of the keto diet you can follow. In addition to the standard keto diet, you can try:

  • Cyclical keto. Sticking to a ratio of high fat and low carbs is difficult for a lot of people. You may miss some of the foods you love (like toast, pasta, or cereal!) and that’s okay, so perhaps the cyclical keto diet is for you? With this version you’ll stick to the regular keto ratios for 5 days, and then have 2 days where you’re allowed to consume carbs. This doesn’t mean you can go overboard and indulge in all kinds of carb heavy dishes, but you can have more carbs on these 2 days than you would normally.
  • Targeted keto. Traditional keto is also tough for folks who have a serious workout schedule—they may not have the fuel or the energy to complete their sessions. The targeted keto diet allows you to consume carbs around your exercise routines, so your body has enough fuel to help you reach your fitness goals. Carbs around your workouts should still be limited and spaced out either before or after.
  • High protein keto. If you want to include more protein in your diet than the standard keto offers, whether it’s for training purposes or to help you lose weight, you can try out the high protein keto diet. Typically the ratio for this diet is 60/35/5 when it comes to fats/protein/carbs. This version will help you stay fuller longer because of the extra protein, but still help your body reach ketosis so you’re burning fat instead of carbs.
  • Keto 2.0. If none of these options sound like something you want to follow, why not try out keto 2.0? This diet follows a ratio of 50/30/20 or even 40/40/20 for fats/protein/carbs. Balancing out the ratios may help you stick to this diet a little better, and still consume all the healthy foods that you would on the regular keto. Keto 2.0 can help you consume fat, protein, and carbs in moderation, so you’re enjoying the food you’re eating, but you’re still making an effort to reduce calories to lose weight.

Why keto-friendly snacks are important

It’s important to have snacks available that are keto-friendly

When you’re on the keto diet, you’re going to need to make sure you plan your meals accordingly. The first few weeks of this new routine might be a little difficult since you probably haven’t had to pay such close attention to what you’re consuming! But with a little practice, it will get easier. You may even find that you like how it makes you plan your meals for the week so you don’t have to worry about what you’ll have for lunch or dinner, because it’ll already be made!

In addition to keto-friendly meals, you’re probably also wondering about keto-friendly snacks. We all get hungry throughout the day, and there’s nothing wrong with having a snack, as long as it adheres to the keto diet you’re following. There are a few circumstances where you’ll specifically want to find keto snacks that work on the go, including:

  • Keto snacks for work. No one wants to feel hungry at work, especially when it’s midmorning or midafternoon, and you still have some time before the end of the day. On the go keto snacks are great to store at your job site, whether that’s in your bag, at your desk, or the fridge at work. Don’t derail your diet just because you’re hungry, but you’ll need to come prepared!
  • On the go keto snacks for the road. Another time where you’ll want some easy on the go keto snacks is if you have a road trip coming up—either for business or pleasure. It’s easy to pick up junk food snacks at convenience stores, but why not avoid that problem entirely when you bring your own keto-friendly snacks instead?
  • Filling keto snacks for the weekend/after work routine. During the work week it’s easy to stick to a routine, especially when it comes to eating. You know your schedule and can plan accordingly. However, weekends and after work are another thing entirely. When you’re committed to losing weight, you’ve got to make sure you make the right decisions, no matter what day of the week it is. This is much easier to do when you have convenient keto-friendly snacks available!
